Ready Player One

I. love. this. book. It might be the nerd in me, I can't deny it, but this book was terrific. If you find the idea of Virtual Reality fascinating and if the 80's were your jam, then this book is for you. Since the introduction of VR, the idea that an entire world could be housed within a pair of goggles, that we could escape essentially into an alternate dimension or world has been the DREAM. This book brings that dream to life. Couple it with all of our favorite things about video games, like Easter eggs, bonus levels and boss fights, add a scavenger hunt, some riddles and puzzles and you've got Ready Player One. I mean, what young adult doesn't want to imagine they can take on the most powerful people in the world and win? All while having super powers that they've equipped? Don't get me wrong though, it's not just a book for teenagers. Because, to be frank, teenagers don't remember anything about the 80's, and understanding the references is half the fun of this book. It's not a long book either so totally tackle-able over a weekend.
p.s. There is a bit of language, all the characters are video game obsessed teenagers, so only to be expected. There is also a quick paragraph about masturbation that I could have done without, let's be honest.
