The Fir Tree

November 10, 2016

"'Enjoy your youth!' said the rays of sunlight."

Hans Christian Andersen's The Fir Tree is a story of warning: a warning to enjoy the moment, each moment, before it is gone. A lesson that I feel we could all learn! It was a fairytale that I haven't heard of before, but one that I enjoyed nonetheless, though it had a sad ending (be warned!)

This version, illustrated by Sanna Annukka, was absolutely beautiful. The illustrations added a sense of whimsy to the story that would have been entirely missing without them. I feel like they are for children and adults alike, as I enjoyed them quite a lot. Really, gorgeous :)

It's a short story, one that I read to my husband while he was making dinner. It's a fantastic addition to any shelf, especially a classics or children's bookshelf.

p.s. It's a fairytale, there's nothing in there to worry about.

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
