The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
September 20, 2016
I have, for a while now, been worried that my passion for music has lay dormant for too long in my heart, that it could not be revived. With each page of this book, I felt it surge inside me, stretching and yawning, startled to have been re-awoken so suddenly, but not frightened off either. A gentle but firm reminder of the magic and the power that music can wield.
"There is a reason you glance up when you first hear a melody, or tap your foot to the sound of a drum. All humans are musical. Why else would the Lord give you a beating heart?"
The parallels that Albom draws between real life and music took my breath away. Everything from describing certain passages of life using time signatures to describing different stages of your life as "joining a band". I cannot speak highly enough of this book. At the beginning, it took me a little bit to get into the rhythm of how "Music", our narrator, speaks, but it was not long before I found myself engrossed.
To any who knows that music always has, and always will, have a place in their hearts, I yell from the rooftops, READ THIS BOOK. It will touch your heart as it did mine. Beautiful, in both concept and execution.
p.s. Clean, clean, clean, clean.
