Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
September 06, 2016
I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this book and quite a few spoilers that planted my feet firmly on the "I'm never going to read that book" side of things. Someone even told me that the Weasley's were the villains in this book! For all those reading this review and have heard the same thing, let me put your mind at ease. That's absolutely not true. But that's all I'm going to say as far as plot and whatnot go because I don't want to give any spoilers. I'm not going to be one of those people.
I will say that, because this is written as a play, it takes a quick minute to get the hang of how to read it. It was slow going at first because I kept skipping over the name of the person who is saying the line and then thoroughly confusing myself. Tip #1: read the name of the person who is saying the line. It's important. Eventually you get a handle on it and then it's like reading any other book.
Well, except that pretty much all the descriptions are missing from this book. Because it is a play, you don't get a lot of details about the setting or what people look like or what they are thinking, which I really missed. But I ended up really enjoying the book! Despite the spoilers, I finished the book more pleased than I was expecting to be. But, I mean, my expectations were really low so take that as you will.
It's a quick read, it's a fun read, especially for any fellow Potterheads. It's worth the afternoon, if nothing but to revisit some of the magic of Hogwarts and the Wizarding World that we've been missing.
p.s. Nothing to worry about in this book. I mean, it's Harry Potter. It's pretty mild.
